The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is a semiautonomous government agency operating in partnership with the private sector and the Government of Uganda to drive national economic growth and development. The Authority was set up by an Act of Parliament (Investment Code 1991, which was later revised to the Edition 2000 Laws of Uganda) 2019 with the aim of promoting and facilitating private sector investment in Uganda. The ability of the Authority to fulfill its mandate primarily lies in the way in which its Human Resource is managed from the point of entry, stay, exit, and post-exit. It is a policy of UIA to attract and retain a highly qualified and competitive workforce to fulfill its mandate hence the need to fill the vacant positions.

UIA seeks to recruit highly skilled, experienced, and motivated qualified individuals to fill the following position

Position Title: Director One Stop Centre
Reports to: Director General Directly
Supervises: Deputy Director eBzs, and Deputy Director Operations Management.

 

Job Summary:
Responsible for building and leading a strong team that can facilitate and provide quality services to foreign and domestic investments to contribute to national development objectives and improve on Uganda’s position in the case of doing business rankings.

Key Roles and responsibilities; 

  1. Advising management about trends, issues, problems, and activities in the investment environment in order to facilitate strategic decision-making.
  2. Developing departmental plans, budgets, and systems to facilitate quality services to potential investors in Uganda
  3. Liaising with all the necessary regulatory agencies to ensure smooth processes for the investors and ensuring improved ease of doing business ranking for Uganda
  4. Building competent, highly motivated, and performing work teams
  5. Overseeing the implementation of the departmental work plans for business developments and facilitation
  6. Maintaining a reliable database on potential and actual foreign and domestic investment community
  7. Participating in strategy formulation and implementation
  8. Regularly updating the management on current trends in investment, key economic parameters(e.g. GDP growth, interest rates, inflation etc), and other international economic fundamentals
  9. Coordinating annual investor surveys and other data collection activities in liaison with the director of investment promotion and business development
  10. Monitoring and evaluation of organizational performance in line with set targets
  11. Supporting the director of finance and administration to mobilize funds to enable implementation of the authority’s mandates.
  12. Ensuring budgetary discipline by departmental staff
  13. Directing, supervising, developing, and mentoring departmental staff
  14. Appraising departmental staff
  15. Preparing periodic performance reports for the department
  16. Executing any other undertakings as may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • A master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Management, Public Administration Economics, Business Computing, Business statistics, IT, Quantitative Economics and International Development from a recognized Institution. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Development Economics, Business Computing, Business statistics, Information Technology, Humanities, Quantitative Economics, and International Development from a recognized Institution. 
  • At least 10 years’ work experience and 7 years’ experience in top senior management of which 4 year is with public sector institution. 
  • Proven experience with planning, implementation, and coordination of business development operations 
  • A well-demonstrated entrepreneurial mind and spirit 
  • Deep knowledge of the global and Ugandan business and investment environment 
  • Strong knowledge of business models under a spectrum of a given economic environment 
  • Research skills and application of data in understanding international economics and financial markets 
  • Deep understanding of international capital flow systems
  • Strong communication, networking advocacy, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent customer care skills and knowledge and experience of modern management information systems
  • Proven integrity
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated skills in stakeholder management
  • Resource mobilization skills
